Nissan NV200 - Taxi of the Future

If you live in the Manhattan or Brooklyn area, you've probably seen the Nissan NV200 Taxi Cab picking up passengers. The typical four-door taxi sedans with big engines are being replaced by eco-friendly vehicles from Nissan, including the Altima Hybrid, which is already a popular cab and police cruiser in The Big Apple.

NYC officials set out to find a replacement for the old taxi cabs of their city back in 2007. After 4 long years of debate, the roomy and green Nissan NV200 van was the chosen. The Taxi & Limousine Commission has "re-imagine the entire taxi system" - and we'll see them in person on the streets of NYC by 2013.

"Nissan's NV200 Taxi will be the first taxi in the world to offer new and iconic features developed for, and with, New Yorkers," said Joe Castelli, vice president, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles. "The Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo will offer a first look at these one-of-a-kind amenities, which include increased legroom, plenty of interior lighting, and materials that reduce odors and germs while supporting sustainability."1

The NV200 will be New York City's official taxi cab for 10 years.
